The secretary of state for education, Nicky Morgan, has backed down on plans to force all schools in England to become academies by 2022, outlined in a recent education white paper.
Morgan said the government had “listened to feedback from MPs, teachers, school leaders and parents” and concluded “that it is not necessary to bring legislation to bring about blanket conversion of all schools to achieve this goal.”
